Dance Class Descriptions
Tot Dance Class
Tot Ballet/Tap
In this ballet and tap combination class dancers will learn the fundamentals of dance through creative movement. These young dancers will focus on the beginning stages of dance technique, listening skills and cooperative learning skills. Age 3-5 year olds.
Tot Tumbling/Hip Hop
This class is designed to introduce basic tumbling skills such as rolls, bridges, handstands and cartwheels, as well as serving as an introduction to hip hop for the younger student. Tots will build their motor skills, confidence, and strength, along with focusing on rhythm, musicality and basic footwork.The children will be kept moving through stretching, skills courses, and games. This class is a perfect opportunity for your tot to gain independence and confidence while learning school and social skills, all while having fun! It is a great way to get kids moving! Age 3-5 year olds.
Jr Musical Theater 1
Children will sing along, as they dance and perform to a different song each week. This class is designed to introduce basic dance moves, while working on listening and cooperative learning skills. Your child will leave class feeling like a star!
Dance Class
Ballet
Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on traditional technical methods. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Pointe
Pointe is an advanced extension of ballet. Dancers begin at the barre and progress to center work, turns and across the floor.
Contemporary
This class is designed for students with previous training in ballet. It emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics & quality while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Dancers will be guided through improvisation skills. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Jazz
Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Jazz Funk to help develop a well-rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement. Class structure includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Levels 3 & 4 will learn to work in heels.
Tap
Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and enjoying rhythm. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Hip Hop
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.
Tumbling
Tumbling teaches flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline & concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic techniques. Students will learn such things as handstands, somersaults, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, back handsprings, tucks, aerials & power tumbling. This class is great for students looking to enhance their agility, flexibility & strength.
Technique
Classes will be designed to help each dancer identify and work on specific dance techniques and skills needed to improve their understanding in other dance classes. The correct technique of jumps, turns, tricks, flexibility and battements will be included in the class curriculum.
Flexibility
This class is designed to improve a dancer’s range of motion, enhance muscle flexibility and increase their level of core muscle strength. Through a variety of stretches and strengthening exercises, dancers will also increase their awareness of their own body’s potential as it connects to expression through movement.
Baton
Baton Class is a specialty class that works on skills such as twirls, loops, tosses, rolls, wraps and finger coordination. Hand to eye skill develops as dancers learn to catch the baton and pass from hand to hand. Marching skills are learned to enable dancers to march in parades.
Potpourri
Potpourri class is style class, designed to offer students a different genre of dance each week. Dancers should be prepared for styles such as contemporary, jazz funk, hip hop, and musical theatre. This class teaches dancers to pick up choreography quickly and perform the choreography with appropriate style.
